My Name is

Rob Marchwinski

Hello there!

My name is Rob Marchwinski and I am an aspiring Data Scientist living in the Boston area. Currently I am employed as an Advanced Analyst at Coverys.

Prior to my current position, I was pursuing a career in Astrophysics and I still dabble when time permits. I received my B.A. in Astronomy & Physics from Boston University and my M.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics from Penn State University.

In addition to my professional life, I am always looking for ways to learn more, to give back, and to complete items on my bucket list. Recently, I became EMT certified and was accepted as a Big Brother for their Mentor 2.0 program.

Advanced Analyst

Use my knowledge of descriptive and multivariate statistical techniques and applications to identify trends and relationships in medical malpractice data.
Ultimately, by working with our Risk Managers, I am attempting to mitigate mistakes in healthcare and reduce malpractice claims.

COVERYS

2015 - PRESENT

Graduate Research Assistant
Under Professor Suvrath Mahadevan, I performed research related to the search for exoplanets. This included identifying false positives through a custom built pipeline and measuring stellar noise as a function of wavelength. The latter resulted in my second published paper.

PENN STATE
Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics

2012 - 2015

Course Instructor
Possibly my favorite position was when I got to teach the summer offering of Introductory Astronomy at Penn State. I developed the lesson plan, lectures, all course materials, as well as taught the 26 enrolled undergrads.

PENN STATE
Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics

2014

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Performed research under Professor Dan Clemens. Using IDL, I developed an algorithm that combined different astronomical observations creating the first resolved map of magnetic field strength in an interstellar cloud. This research resulted in my first published paper.

2009 - 2012

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Used IDL to analyze radar observations of meteors passing through the atmosphere.
